Founder Carrie Chen Offers A Cross-Cultural Experience
Experience our cashmere scarves, wraps, throws and gourmet tea at the grand opening of our first flagship boutique. We officially open on September 25, 2017 with a traditional blessing ceremony performed by Tibetan lama Khenpo Kunga.
Our founder and creative director Carrie Chen offers a unique shopping experience. On one side of our new 4,000 square foot retail space (in the charming hamlet of Hillsdale, NY) is her collection of sumptuous cashmere scarves, throws and wraps; on the other side is Casana T House, serving unique gourmet teas. Together, the two spaces unite Carrie's love of design as well as culinary arts. A pure, healthful, nature-embracing lifestyle is at the core of everything we offer.
The interior—designed by Carrie Chen Design Group—is spare and modern, combining a natural color palette with an Asian sensibility. Details include pale wood paneling that highlights the vibrant colors of the cashmere collection, as well as glowing shadow boxes and mirrors, which show off the collection’s intricate patterns. Some are draped atop ceramics crafted by local resident Paul Chaleff, a renowned artist considered a pioneer of modern American pottery. What’s more, poster-size images of Casana brand ambassador—Miss World Nepal 2016 Asmi Shrestha—photographed on location where Casana is sourced and woven, adorn the walls. The images were taken by New York City and Rhinebeck resident Yumiko Izo, an award-winning photographer who specializes in large-scale pigment prints.
Additional details that blend East and West include a traditional Nepalese floating flower bowl—a symbol of tranquility—as well as flower arrangements by ikebana master Tamura Hanzue and pottery made by Asian masters.
The boutique also offers exclusives, including scarves in limited-edition prints and patterns, as well as cashmere sweaters.
In addition to serving teas, coffee and pastries in an enchanting and lively environment, Casana T House is an event space offering instruction in both Japanese and Chinese tea ceremonies, individual tea tastings and private tea ceremonies for groups of 8 to 10. On some nights Casana T House will host special speakers followed by a light buffet.
Says Chen, who trained as a landscape architect and interior designer, “I created this space, which includes my design studio upstairs, because I wanted to bring together everything I love. It’s a great setup for me artistically, plus I get to connect with people who come to shop and relax. It’s a cross-cultural experience meant to delight all five senses.”
